Henry Carpenter, Rafa Russo, Ed Goodale, You Lousy Bicycle & Moykal O’Bui
Our favourite singer-songwriter gathering is back on the 1st of November! As usual, join us for an awesome night filled with original live music from 7:30pm upstairs at The Function Room!
A humble £5 on the door to get in, to be distributed among performers at the end of the gig.
Henry Carpenter (aka. Jimmy Getaway)
Former singer with Jimmy Getaway appears for the first time under his own name. Henry will be making his third appearance at TOTHAS. We enjoyed a striking performance of musical and lyrical panache las time, since then he has had tremendous success with The Quetin Dentin Show which he didn’t only perform in but also helped writing. Expect a quirky, laugh ot loud performance with thought provoking wittiness. Henry is an incredible talented artist, inspired keyboard player with his performance being incredibly entertaining, unusual and eccentric.
His new “Summer Nights in Sapce” is now available to listen on Soundcloud and we much recommend you to have a listen…
The Madrid born singer-songwriter of Argentinian origin began his musical career in New York City during the 1980s. He performed in infamous Greenwich Village clubs like The Bitter End and Folk City… He then moved to London (where he lived and worked for almost a decade) and published his first album “A Petrified Forest” (Conpiracy Records, 1990), while also actively performing on the 90’s acoustic music scene of the British capital. His first album was gained the attention of prestigious New musical Express, which provided Rafa with incredible opportunities to share stage with such well-known artist as Tori Amos, Melissa Etheridge and John Martyn… His second album “Despite Myself” (Mauve Records 1994) was produced by Mike Howlett, to be followed by “Raging Clowns” (i records, 1996). An inspiring, multi-disciplinary creative, he has since achived considerable success with screen writing and directing as well… His films such as “The Man with Rain in his Shoes” (starring Penelope Cruz!) among other awards has won Best Screenplay on the Montreal Film Festival in 1998… His most recent studio album “Sunken Ships” was released in 2011 by Mondegreen Records.
We are in for a touching, deeply lyrical and emotional performance, Rafa’s stage acts are subtle and humbly executed, to convey in contrast an array of intense humanly experiences we are all too familiar with.
Ed makes his second appearance on TOTHAS. This handsome and incredibly talented young artist from Midhurst (West Sussex) will be performing on the night with his brother Ollie on cajon. Despite his young age, Ed has toured the UK and Europe extensively and his EPs such as “Symptoms” (2014) and “Don’t Take No for an Answer” (2016) evidence real musical skills and maturity.
Ed’s debut album, titled “The Same but Different” was launched at the end of 2014 and tells the story of his experiences growing up with Asperger’s Syndrome.
Wonderfully chill tunes, smooth moods and a positive, uplifting tone are the signature of Ed Goodale. His songs boast of sophisticated lyrics with intelligent messages and intriguing questions, we’re convinced that you’ll be dazzled by his genuine stage presence and execution!
LOVE and follow Ed on Spotify!
You Lousy Bicycle
A new musical project by Phil Dumesnil, former frontman of Foibles, You Lousy Bicycles doesn’t lack of eccentricities… Phil started to record music at a young age while living in San Francisco and produced since an extensive collection of work. The best way to describe Phil’s style is by his own words: “Likes coffee. Foibles has social anxiety disorder. Foibles can grow a mustache but should not. Foibles is a guy named Phil who used to write and record music in his bedroom in San Francisco…” Phil plays solo acoustic nylon stringed guitars and sing short songs with verve, energy and wry humour. Here’s an awesome interview with Phil by Sound in The Static.
Performer / event organiser & host returns with a set of songs from former band The Boycycles’ “lost” or more accurately mislaid recordings! Moyk has managed to blow the dust off the tapes and with the help of technology is breathing life into them again. He is hoping to beg steal and borrow some instruments as well as musicians to perform on some of these songs on the night. New accomplice Tim Campbell is set to return on cajon after his impressive TOTHAS debut in July, whilst original Boycycle Mark Thorne will be making a welcome return to the stage as he joins on keyboards O’But & Campbell!
We’ll hope to see you all on the 1st of November, for the time being like and follow Boysteroussounds on Facebook!
